Care Instructions:
Over time, you may notice black buildup on your Ultra Sterasyl filter, especially if you live in a cloudy water area. You can clean the filter to help restore its flow. Just remove the filter and scrub the surface evenly with a clean abrasive kitchen pad under running water or in a bowl, ensuring that the open ended plastic mount is clear of the water, to avoid contamination.
For best results, replace the Ultra Sterasyl filter every 6 months. The ceramic and carbon filter piece is biodegradable; plastic is recyclable (depending on your state's regulations).
Flow Rate:
Note: Your first use of the Ultra Sterasyl Filter will be slow. No worries - this is normal. After a few cycles (after the internal carbon block is thoroughly flushed), the speed will improve. The pores on the ceramic filter element are smaller than other filters on the market (100 times thinner than a follicle of hair). This not only filters the suspended solids out of your drinking water properly, but it also allows extra exposure time to the carbon and media. The more filter elements you use, the quicker the flow rate.
Water flow is affected by the quality of water supply, so flow rate will vary.
